Tires do not come cheap. Replacing all the tires at the same time can definitely cost money, and so prolonging its use is in the best interest of every car owner. Fortunately, there are several ways to ensure that the tires could work through its expected lifespan, or could go on safely working even for a bit more.
Experts, for instance, are one in saying that careful tire maintenance can go a long way, Popular Tire Manufacturer Good Year says apart from prolonging the lifespan of the tires, regular maintenance ensures vehicle safety. In its official blog, Good Year mentioned several ways to keep the tires last longer. One of its top suggestions is to maintain the tire’s correct air pressure levels.
“Make it a habit of checking tire pressure regularly (every 2-4 weeks) as proper tire inflation can make driving a lot safer and make your tires last longer. Even in ideal conditions, tires lose pressure at a rate of about 0.69 bar or 1 pound per square inch (psi) per month. That rate increases as temperatures rise. Check tire pressure at least once every month and have a good look at the treads while you’re at it. You’ll find the recommended pressure in your vehicle owner’s manual or on the sidewall of your tire.”

Rotating the tires
Expert recommends yet another additional way to ensure that the tires will not wear out even before its expected lifespan. Automotive Maintenance Website YourMechanic.com shares that regular tire inspection along with rotating tires can help prolong its use.
“Have your tires rotated every 6,000 miles. Rotating your tires on schedule is one of the best things you can do for the lifespan of your tires. Proper tire rotation helps evenly distribute the wear and tear on your tires, which makes them last much longer. Ideally, you should have your tires rotated every 6,000 miles.”

Auto Blog Road and Track also agree that careful maintenance can go a long way in prolonging the lifespan of a car tire. They, however, emphasized that a bit of common sense can even make a car tire safely go beyond its intended use. The author made this point in a write-up on car tire maintenance and how it can be safely utilized for even up to a decade.
“Instead of marking a date on your calendar, Rodgers recommends inspecting and maintaining your tires every month. Keep an eye out for cracks in the sidewall caused by either sun exposure or under inflation, and monitor your tread depth. Most of us rely on the wear bars on the tires themselves or the ancient penny test to tell us when it’s time to swap shoes, but Rodgers says that’s a problem.”
