What is the most efficient cloth to use when cleaning a car? (Photo Credits)
When cleaning a car, it is important that an efficient rug be used to remove excess water, and remove spot dirt. But what is the best cloth to use for vehicle cleaning?
Autos.com came up with an article detailing the different types of cloth to use in cleaning a car. In that article they measured the best type of cloth to use in car cleaning. One of the cloths they described is the chamois.
“Chamois leather is a natural product that is very soft and absorbent. Wash cloths made of chamois leather are used more for drying than washing, but can be abrasive and take the wax off the car’s surface. The chamois doesn’t hold the dirt and hence it gets dragged across the car’s finish as you wipe each panel. If not used carefully, it can wreck the car’s finish. Besides this, chamois doesn’t dry as well as a microfiber towel.”

Microfiber cloth
The website Your Mechanic meanwhile recommends the use of microfiber cloth in cleaning both the inside and the outside of the vehicle. They explained in one of their car cleaning guides why buying such a cleaning cloth can be considered a good investment.
“Microfiber cloths are a synthetic material made up of tiny strands. Each strand is about 1% the diameter of a human hair and can be tightly woven to create an ultra-absorbent material. The strands are made of fibers such as nylon, Kevlar, and polyester, and are extremely strong and durable, making them ideal for automotive uses. They capture and pull away dirt and dust into their fibers unlike many other natural and synthetic fabrics, which smear dust and dirt around the surface.”

Popular Mechanics meantime came up with a complete article on properly cleaning a car. The guide is meant to encourage car owners to clean their car intentionally without using cleansers that do more harm than good.
“If you care about your car’s exterior, you’ll avoid those quickie car washes with the big brushes that can do more harm than good and do a DIY car wash that will achieve the best results. Most people that a wash and wax is the best way to keep their car shiny and clean. Their heart is in the right place, but there is much more to washing a car than those two things.”
